UK Autodrive is seeking Expressions of Interest from organisations who are interested in operating the self-driving ‘pod’ vehicles which are due to be trialled in Milton Keynes from next year.

Up to 40 low-speed autonomous transport system (L-SATS) pods are set to be deployed on the pavements of Milton Keynes as part of the UK Autodrive programme. The Systems Operator will be responsible for overseeing the operational aspect of the trial, including the despatching of vehicles, monitoring of their journeys, and ensuring that they are sufficiently charged and maintained.

Milton Keynes Council has issued a request for Expressions of Interest (EoI), with organisations that wish to bid for the role of System Operator having until January 20th 2017 to express their interest.

Following the receipt of EoI’s, preferred bidders will be short-listed and a formal invitation to tender will be issued in mid-February 2017. Subject to the receipt of satisfactory tenders, it is the intention to appoint the winning bidder by mid-April 2017.

The appointed operator will be expected to begin activities on May 1st, 2017 and work with the consortium partners to develop a working knowledge of the L-SATS system over a period of about 12 months before operating a public demonstration service on behalf of the consortium in Central Milton Keynes during the period May – October 2018.

Organisations with an interest in this role, are asked to contact Brian Matthews (brian.matthews@milton-keynes.gov.uk) to obtain a copy of the call for EoI.
