The UK’s largest collaborative trial of connected and autonomous vehicle technology has been given the green light to move out onto city streets, after the UK Autodrive consortium successfully completed its final set of private test track demonstrations.

The £20 million UK Autodrive research and development consortium - jointly funded by government and industry - was today marking its final private test track demonstrations at the HORIBA MIRA proving ground.

Jaguar Land Rover is to being trials of self-driving cars on the streets of Coventry and Milton Keynes by the end of this year after reaching a key milestone it is autonomous vehicle research.

A car that can drive itself around a city and even respond to traffic lights is unveiled today – and could be on the roads in a matter of months. It is part of a £20million Government-backed project designed to keep Britain in the forefront of driverless car design.

No matter how much you try and ignore it, there’s no stopping the fact that autonomous cars are coming. And in a big way. By 2025, it’s an industry expected to be worth £900 billion.
