ARUP

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services.

Arup is the lead partner for UK Autodrive, responsible to Innovate UK for delivering the project. Arup’s role includes programme management and technical coordination of the work packages.

AXA

AXA Group is a financial services company specialising in wealth management, healthcare and insurance.

AXA is advising UK Autodrive on matters relating to insurance associated with the introduction and integration of autonomous vehicles into the UK motor market.

Coventry City Council

Coventry is a historic city in the West Midlands region of England with a strong tradition of automotive industry and innovation.

The city has a more traditional road layout than the grid systems of Milton Keynes, the other host city of UK Autodrive, and will stage open-road demonstrations of connected and autonomous passenger cars towards the end of the three-year programme.

Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company is a multinational automaker headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, USA.

Ford Motor Company will be providing UK Autodrive with passenger vehicles fitted with connected car capabilities in order to demonstrate the potential benefits of this technology, as well as its interoperability with other manufacturers’ systems.

Gowling WLG

Gowling WLG is an international law firm with a number of commercial lawyers specialising in support for the automotive sector.

Gowling WLG is providing expertise on legal matters associated with the introduction and integration of self-driving vehicles into the UK motor market, and producing a series of white papers on legal aspects relating to connected and autonomous vehicles.

HORIBA MIRA

HORIBA MIRA is a global provider of engineering, research and test services to the automotive, defence, aerospace and rail sectors.

The test facilities and proving ground at their West Midlands based site will be used for UK Autodrive’s initial private track vehicle trials. HORIBA MIRA is also leading the work package responsible for safety, security and communications which will develop safety cases and communications protocols used throughout the programme.

Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover is the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer, built around two iconic British car brands.

It will be providing UK Autodrive with vehicles that have its latest connected and autonomous research technologies, in order to demonstrate the potential benefits of these technologies, as well as their interoperability with other manufacturers’ systems. Jaguar Land Rover’s aim for connected and autonomous vehicles is to give drivers exactly the right information at the right time and believes collaborations with other manufacturers are essential to help deliver this commitment to customers.

Milton Keynes Council

Milton Keynes is the largest of England’s “new towns” and one of the country’s fastest-growing urban centres.

It has a modern, planned layout with a characteristic grid of roads that run between districts. This is in contrast to the more traditional road layout in Coventry, UK Autodrive’s other host city. Milton Keynes will host demonstrations of the road-based passenger cars as well as trialling the 40-pod public transport system that will connect different parts of the town centre.

RDM Group

RDM is a Coventry-based advanced engineering business which has been supplying products and services to the automotive industry for over 23 years.

RDM is designing and manufacturing the autonomous ‘pod’ vehicles which will demonstrate the L-SATS (Low-Speed Autonomous Transport System) component of UK Autodrive.

Tata Motors European Technical Centre

Tata Motors European Technical Centre is a UK-based centre of excellence for automotive design and engineering.

The Coventry-based centre will be providing UK Autodrive with passenger cars fitted with both connected and autonomous car technologies, in order to demonstrate the potential benefits of these technologies, as well as their interoperability with other manufacturers’ systems.

Thales UK

Thales UK research, develop, manufacture and supply technology to make people, property and information safer and more secure.

Thales UK will be providing expertise on infrastructure systems and cyber security to the UK Autodrive programme, ensuring security of communication and data.

The Open University

The Open University is leading the MK:Smart project to create a connected hub for managing Milton Keynes’ city system data.

The Open University’s involvement in UK Autodrive provides a link between the two programmes, allowing both projects to share and benefit from the data acquired during each programme.

Transport Systems Catapult

The Transport Systems Catapult is part of a network of elite innovation centres established by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK.

Set up to champion “Intelligent Mobility”, the Transport Systems Catapult is responsible for disseminating UK Autodrive’s findings to key stakeholders including industry, academia, the media and the wider public.

University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge will be carrying out a number of studies within UK Autodrive’s Cities Research programme.

The University’s research will focus on the feasibility of using low-speed ‘pods’ as a new form of public transport system, the potential impact of such vehicles on congestion, and public attitudes towards self-driving vehicles. The results of this research will provide insight for the UK Autodrive programme participants, as well as for wider stakeholders in industry and government.

University of Oxford

The University of Oxford’s Mobile Robotics Group (MRG) carries out research and development in all aspects of land-based mobile autonomy.

MRG is providing UK Autodrive with expertise and research, including a study into the scalability of autonomous control systems for multi-vehicle operation.

Innovate UK

Innovate UK is the UK’s innovation agency, helping people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science and technology innovations that will grow the UK economy.

Sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Innovate UK is part-funding the UK Autodrive project and is responsible for reporting and monitoring of the project to government.
